Nurses’ Knowledge on COVID-19 Prevention and Clinical Management at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital, Dhaka

Abstract: Corona Virus Disease (COVID-19) is a serious infectious disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus and causes more death than any other disease around the world. In the management of such patients, nurses play a significant role through proper care and preventive measures. This study analyzed the level of Nurses’ Knowledge Regarding Management of COVID-19 infection. A descriptive type of cross-sectional study was carried out between 6 month among 90 nurses who were selected conveniently from 120 populations to assess the level of knowledge regarding management of COVID-19 Infection at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital. A structured questionnaire was used for data collection and simple statistics (frequency, percentage and mean) was used for data analysis. The study result showed that the mean age of the respondents was 34 years. The findings of study revealed that the nurses’ overall knowledge was at average level with mean score 66%. Among them only11% respondents had excellent, 15% possesses very good, 17% had good, 23% had average and 34% had poor knowledge on management of COVID-19 infection. In conclusion, the higher educated nurses had better knowledge than others. In the meantime, the nurses having special training reported better knowledge than other. The study provides suggestion to prioritize training programmes in raising the level nurses’ knowledge in terms of providing quality care to the COVID-19 infected patient.
