Designing Cyber-Resilient ERP Data Architectures: Models for Transaction Continuity

Keywords: Cyber-Resilient Architecture, Enterprise Resource Planning Security, Zero Trust Framework, Business Continuity Management, Integrated Threat Protection.

Abstract: Enterprise Resource Planning systems provide the operational foundation of contemporary organizations, consolidating key business processes within finance, human resources, supply chain, and customer management. The growing maturity of cyber attacks has laid bare serious weaknesses in conventional ERP architectures, with special impact on transaction processing and system integration capacity. Today's threat environments expose complex persistent attacks, ransomware operations, and insider threats leveraging the interconnectedness of ERP ecosystems to amplify operational disruption. This thorough review discusses design principles for cyber-resilient ERP data architectures that integrate security into system foundations instead of implementing protection mechanisms as secondary afterthoughts. The architectural frameworks proposed incorporate Zero Trust access controls, end-to-end encryption protocols, blockchain-based transaction verification, and fault-tolerant integration patterns that ensure operational continuity in the presence of security incidents. The solutions meet the core challenge of achieving operational efficiency coupled with effective security capabilities while enabling digital transformation programs. The architectures proposed showcase improved threat detection, automated incident response, and business continuity assurance across various deployment scenarios. Environmental gains are achieved through the maximized use of resources and minimized infrastructure needs, while economic gains are in terms of the avoidance of expensive security breaches and enhanced competitive standing. Social gains involve increased data privacy preservation and ensured service continuity for stakeholders during extreme weather conditions.
