Edge-to-Cloud Architecture: Transforming Manufacturing Through Advanced Data Integration and Processing Systems
Keywords: Edge computing, IoT sensors, containerization, digital twins, cyber-physical systems.
Abstract: This article presents a comprehensive examination of edge-to-cloud architecture as a transformative framework for modern manufacturing environments. The integration of Internet of Things sensors, containerized applications, and distributed computing creates sophisticated data pipelines that enable real-time monitoring, predictive maintenance, and adaptive production capabilities. The layered architecture—spanning edge devices on factory floors through fog computing nodes to centralized cloud platforms—establishes a coherent processing continuum optimized for both latency-sensitive operations and complex analytics. Middleware solutions facilitate critical operational technology and information technology convergence, creating digital threads that track products throughout their lifecycle. Kubernetes orchestration enables consistent application deployment across heterogeneous infrastructure while maintaining system resilience. Advanced analytics leveraging this architecture drive predictive maintenance systems and supply chain optimization, creating intelligent production environments that continuously adapt to changing conditions. The edge-to-cloud paradigm fundamentally reshapes manufacturing processes, establishing new benchmarks for operational efficiency, product quality, and market responsiveness.
