Abstract: Entrepreneurship has emerged as a significant driver of economic growth, employment generation, innovation, and social transformation in India. The emergence of a vibrant start-up ecosystem, supported by technological advancements, government initiatives, venture capital investments, and a growing entrepreneurial culture, has transformed India into one of the world's leading start-up hubs. The Government of India's initiatives such as Startup India, Digital India, Make in India, and Atmanirbhar Bharat have created a conducive environment for entrepreneurial development. Despite remarkable progress, several challenges continue to hinder the growth and sustainability of start-ups, including limited access to finance, regulatory complexities, skill gaps, infrastructure deficiencies, and market uncertainties. The present study examines the current status of entrepreneurship development and the start-up ecosystem in India, analyses the opportunities and prospects available for entrepreneurs, and identifies the major challenges affecting entrepreneurial growth. The study is based on secondary data collected from government reports, research articles, industry publications, and startup databases. The findings indicate that India possesses enormous entrepreneurial potential; however, sustained policy support, innovation-driven education, financial accessibility, and ecosystem strengthening are necessary to ensure long-term success.
