Zero-Downtime Schema Evolution in Multi-Region Distributed Databases via API Gateway Orchestration
Keywords: Schema Evolution, Distributed Databases, Api Gateway Orchestration, Consistency Enforcement, Zero-Downtime Migration, Dual-Write Mechanism.
Abstract: The Schema Rollout Guard (SRG) presents an innovative solution to the complex challenge of zero-downtime schema evolution in multi-region distributed databases. By leveraging API Gateway orchestration, this framework enables seamless schema transitions while maintaining continuous system operation. The SRG architecture employs three key components—the Schema Consistency Monitor, API Gateway Policy Engine, and Migration Coordinator—which work in concert to manage a structured four-stage evolution process. This approach effectively decouples applications from database schema modifications by relocating version compatibility logic to the infrastructure control plane. Through the automatic data change, dual-writing mechanisms, and strong stability enforcement, the SRG ensures data integrity during the transition, reducing the performance effect. The results of the assessment also demonstrate the ability of the framework to maintain operational continuity under adverse network conditions, offering much better reliability than traditional migration approaches.
