Assessment of the Clinical Outcomes of the Role of MRI in Improving Health Outcomes of 90 Patients with Knee Joint Injuries
Keywords: Magnetic resonance imaging; knee joint injuries; health outcomes; meniscus; and accuracy.
Abstract: Knee joint injuries are considered one of the most common diseases in the musculoskeletal system, accounting for a large percentage of injuries to people. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has been a major achievement in knee examination since the 1970s. This paper was contributed to evaluate the findings of 90 patients' health who have knee joint injuries and undergone magnetic resonance imaging. A total of 90 patients with knee joint injuries were enrolled, and diagnostic and demographic data underwent MRI technique during a 12-month follow-up from 4 March 2024 to 8 March 2025 at different hospitals in Iraq. We determined pathological findings and the type of injuries in the patients which investigated under MRI diagnoses. We also assessed the accuracy of MRI examination into 90 patients with knee joint injuries. Our findings were enrolled clinical data of knee injuries into 90 patients who participated in this study. Joint effusion was the most common pathology of knee injuries, who prevalent in our data, which including 88.89% following by anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear, which was 46.67%, where 51.11% of patients have injury in the right knee, while 48.89% in the left knee. It also medial location presented as well as one with the greatest prevalence (37.78%), but the lateral meniscus lesions represented 25.56%, respectively. It evaluated the effectiveness of the MRI technique in the accuracy of patients' examination, which a sensitivity of 95.8%, specificity (92.1%), positive predictive value (96.6%), negative predictive value (91.3%), and overall accuracy (94.5%). MRI showed high clinical-radiological agreement and allowed to modify of the therapeutic behavior, confirming itself as a first-line method in the comprehensive evaluation of knee injuries.
