The Evolution of Modern Distributed Databases: From Monolithic Systems to Global Data Fabrics

Keywords: Distributed Databases, CAP Theorem, NoSQL, Data Partitioning, Hybrid Transactional/Analytical Processing.

Abstract: The elaboration of distributed database systems represents an abecedarian metamorphosis in data operation architecture driven by exponential growth in data volume, haste, and variety. Traditional monolithic database systems face essential limitations when defying contemporary challenges, urging the development of distributed databases guided by CAP theorem principles. From early generalities in the 1970s through the NoSQL revolution and corner exploration papers of the mid-2000s, distributed databases have progressed significantly, enabled by parallel computing. Specialized inventions in agreement protocols, partitioning strategies, replication models, and thickness fabrics have enhanced capabilities while addressing complex trade-offs. Security considerations have evolved to encompass threat modeling, authentication across bumps, encryption strategies, and zero-trust infrastructures. Enterprise relinquishment follows established modernization patterns, integrating with microservices, enabling real-time analytics, supporting mongrel transactional/ logical processing, and easing global data fabrics. The confluence of these developments has converted distributed databases from technical results into essential structural factors, enabling digital metamorphosis across diligence.
