An Integrated SELinux and Encryption-Based Framework for Secure Data Transactions in HIPAA-Compliant Android Healthcare App

Keywords: Android security framework, HIPAA compliance, medical device encryption, healthcare data privacy, SELinux policy enhancement.

Abstract: The healthcare industry's digital transformation has introduced unprecedented opportunities for mobile technology integration while simultaneously creating complex security challenges that require comprehensive solutions. This technical review examines the development and implementation of secure system-level data transactions for HIPAA-compliant healthcare applications, focusing on Android platforms and their specialized security requirements. The enhanced Security-Enhanced Linux (SELinux) framework provides mandatory access controls through hierarchical security models that accommodate diverse medical data sensitivity levels, from public health statistics to highly confidential patient records. Advanced policy enhancement strategies incorporate adaptive security mechanisms, granular access controls, and temporal restrictions that automatically adjust permissions based on healthcare workflow patterns. The lightweight end-to-end encryption framework addresses the unique challenges of medical device communications by balancing robust security requirements with computational limitations inherent in resource-constrained environments. Bluetooth-connected medical devices benefit from enhanced security protocols that implement multi-factor authentication, certificate-based verification, and biometric authentication integration to prevent unauthorized access and data breaches. Comprehensive data classification systems automatically identify and tag protected health information, ensuring consistent application of security policies across all healthcare data interactions. The implementation of sophisticated authentication and access control systems supports complex organizational structures while maintaining regulatory compliance through automated audit capabilities and real-time monitoring mechanisms. This work presents the first integrated security architecture that enhances Android SELinux policies specifically tailored for HIPAA-compliant mobile healthcare systems, bridging system-level security with clinical operational workflows.
