Thyroid Surgery Trends and Outcomes in Iraq: A Retrospective Review

Abstract: Thyroid disorders happen to be a fairly common health problem in Iraq, and surgery is one of the primary interventions performed for both benign and malignant diseases of the thyroid and. This retrospective review attempts to analyze general trends and trends of thyroid surgeons in Iraq from studies published between 2015 and 2022. Relevant articles were identified and reviewed by pre-defined criteria where. Most of those articles were published during 2015-2025 and dealt with surgical disciplines, outcomes, and complications. Retrospective methods were majorly used, which contributed to new patient data regarding demographics or other surgical indications. Female patients were mostly affected, with multinodular goiter being the commonest indication, and the overall complication rate was low as well as There was a positive association between total thyroidectomy and higher complication rates in this review and finally, thyroid surgery in Iraq, stated within the case volume with improving outcomes over the last decade, wishes for continued collaboration for the standardization of care and further minimization of its complication rates.
